About Cormyr

Cormyr (pronounced core-MEER), also known as the Forest Country and the Land of the Purple Dragon, is an independent nation in the interior of Faerûn within the Forgotten Realms -- the most popular world for Advanced Dungeon and Dragon adventures. It is historically one of the most prosperous countries of Faerûn, has specific laws and is arguably the most civilized nation in Faerûn.

About cormyr.com

The original cormyr.com site was created in early 1999 as a location for DM tools but, as with a great many things in life, it never materialized and became a location for occasional news and file downloads. Our local gaming group, (known as G4, Goofy Guys Gaming Group, a name bestowed upon us by the wife of one of our founding members) has been meeting regularly for 2nd Edition AD&D adventures since 1988. In early 1999, G4 started the "Cormyr Experiment". The experiment was location specific insomuch that all of the DMs would center their individual campaigns around or within the city of Arabel in Cormyr. Unfortunately, the name Arabel was unavailable as a domain name so Cormyr was taken instead. The experiment had multiple DMs running mostly single-day adventures with each player (and DMs) having at least two characters to better flesh out the party depending upon who was acting as DM. The campaign was amazingly successful and had no less than five DMs rotating on a regular basis over a three year period. This allowed everyone to play as well as DM on a regular basis allowing for experimentation with new ideas and adventuring concepts. If someone wished to incorporate a character or expand upon an event that was introduced by a different DM, they would collaborate and expand upon those NPCs and/or storylines.

Current Group

Two of the original members of G4 are still playing semi-monthly with an emphasis on gaming for kids as most of the original members now have children who are old enough to play. In fact, three of the five current players are under the age of 18 with two players and the DM being over 40.
